Winter Warmers - stay warm with us...

**FINAL GIG OF 2008**

FREE - Proud Galleries, Stables Market, Camden - 5 mins from Camden Town and Chalk Farm Tube stations. 3pm, THIS SUNDAY, 30th NOVEMBER.

Come! Before we hide away writing & recording for a few months :) See Live page for full details.

Hello one and all.

A busy little 4 weeks for Riddler, despite the 'no-gigs'. We've been locked away, writing editing, and doing some recording down at the Roundhouse in Camden, and the little break from Live work has been well used! This 'may' well be it for the year before we duck away to do some more recording & writing over the winter, we have three little gifts for you...

The best in upfront alternative post-modern rock'n'roll debauchery - as they put it. Our favourite London venue - as we put it. Doors are around 7:00pm, Riddler should be on stage around 9:45/10:00pm, and we're lead support for someone Time Out described as one of the 'top 40 men and women who make London'. Full line-up on our website.

Stage 2 @ THE STABLES, WAVENDON, MK - Thursday 13th NOVEMBER
Supporting Jackdaw 4 - £9.50 Adv / £11.50 on the Door
8:30pm - 11:00pm - Stage 8:45pm

An unbelievable venue - we're back here on Stage 2 after our slot in September which went down rather well. Stage 1 has played host to pretty much everyone in the last year - from Courtney Pine & Suzanne Vega to Nigel Kennedy & Cerys Mathews - with Stage 2 hosting Gabriella Cilmi's UK Debut gig - and it's just lovely!

You can get tickets direct through the Stables website, or through their Box Office - 01908 280800 - your support here would be unbelievable. Doors: 8:30pm - Riddler on @ 8:45pm.

THE PLAYGROUND AT PROUD - Sunday 30th NOVEMBER

Probably our last gig of the year before we duck into the Studio for a month or two to finish off some writing & recordings. Come down for a fun Sunday out doing your Christmas Shopping in Camden, and hear a bunch of fresh music for free. More details as we get them - keep an eye on the live page for updates on this one.

We hope to see you soon!
Wed 15th October @ 11:57am

October - Studio Fever returns...

What's going on this month? Riddler are writing, recording, shifting studios round, playing with new toys, sounds, rehearsing & gearing up for some great gigs in November. The news page will definitely be quiet while we get on with the nitty gritty, but we'll be sticking stuff up on our blog in the meantime!

Thanks to all of you who tuned into to listen to us on BBC Radio earlier in the month - we've had some fantastic comments, and we hope to be back on air, perhaps with a little live set, before we are back at The Stables in November.

If you're new to Riddler, there're three possible gigs next month in Whitechapel, Camden and Milton Keynes, but we'd recommend you check The Stables out if you're not already familiar with this amazing venue. It's well worth the trip!

Stay well please!
Fri 29th August @ 02:38pm

September - come walk the plank with us...

**UPDATE** Tickets for The Stables (Friday 12th) can be bought directly from HERE!

Anneliese & Mike are also on t'Radio with Sue Marchant tonight (Tuesday 9th September) around 9pm on BBC Eastern Counties Regional radio. You can catch it on 95.5, 104.5 and 103.8 FM, and also online through the local stations in the eastern region (like BBC Three Counties) - there's no Listen Again, so Listen Live online through those sites too!

We think there were a few dots of Sunshine during August... our little trip down to Hamswell managed to stay beautifully nice, especially while we were on stage, but aside from that, we're sure we've seen that little yellow fella in the sky poke his head out now and again... Let's hope much more for September!

There's all sorts of things about the last month popping up on our Blog at the moment (Studio Dog is shortly to follow) - so do pop over and check that out too!

Three gigs this month - all of them really important for us, but also great evenings for one and all!

THE RAMSHACKLE, FULHAM - Wednesday 3rd
http://www.myspace.com/theramshackle
Nearest Tube: Putney Bridge (about 200m).

DAWSON BREED MUSIC present: Riddler, Jackdaw4 (think urban living Beach Boys - you've probably heard their work already here and there on't'telly) and Stone Halo (Rocking, Funking, Rolling jumpy music). Some people coming specifically to hear us , and already lots of rumours of a few slightly more famous people coming along too. Expect some new tunes from us to go along with it - it'll be a stunner!
Doors:7pm, Riddler on @ 7:45pm

THE STABLES, MK - Friday 12th
http://www.stables.org

An absolutely amazing venue, we're on Stage 2 @ The Stables for a Double Headline with Toni Castells ('Cafe Del Mar'ish/Classical crossover styled artist, with a Laptop and an Opera Singer - you know this is gonna be a corker!). The Stables is amazing - Stage 1 has played host to pretty much everyone in the last year - from Courtney Pine & Suzanne Vega to Nigel Kennedy, Evelyn Glennie & Cerys Mathews - with Stage 2 hosting Gabriella Cilmi's UK Debut gig.

You can get tickets direct through the Stables website, or through their Box Office - 01908 280800 - your support here would be unbelievable.

Doors: 8:30pm - Riddler on @ 9:45pm.

THE GOOD SHIP, KILBURN - Friday 19th
http://www.myspace.com/thegoodship
Nearest Tube: Kilburn (about 300m) / West Hampstead

Back down to London, just in time to stick a Pirate hat on and get down and dirty @ the Good Ship. Really passionate about music, it's their Electro Night - Alicia Wolfe, Riddler, Belladonna & ElettroNora Doors: 8pm, Stage 9:30pm, & on with DJs 'til 4am - we're trying to persuade Anneliese to translate Candy Delight into Pirate lingo for the night too... better bring the Accordion! Grog ahoy...
Fri 1st August @ 08:34pm

August - Sun, Fun & a Festival...

Yes, sweltering heat at last - so rumour has it that we might just have just made it into Summer now. Time to get your Shorts, T-Shirts, Mini-Skirts, inappropraite Sandals and wellies into gear for the 'final' part of Festivals and general partying... not includig September of course. Anyway - Riddler had a great month in July - the Bull&Gate was a storming night, Jrink was fabulous and definitely intimate, and Spoonful of Poison down at Rhythm Factory was excellent fun (there's more about that in our blog). We even snuck in a last-minute gig down at The Good Ship just before the beginning of the month, and we're back there later in the year for a full-on night of electro joy... On top of that, we have some new songs in the offing, some of which are almost certainly going to appear in August's gigs...
And so on to those. Just two for your 'delictation', but they will be fabulous:

THURSDAY 7th AUGUST - NAMBUCCA, HOLLOWAY ROAD
One of North London's coolest venue's, Riddler are down here for a showcase gig care of Glasswerk - who have described the band as:

Girl fronted electro-pop want you to judge their genre for yourselves. Offering emotive vocals coupled with jaunty beats and a dash of leopard print one to brighten up a Thursday

...which was nice! It's going to be a good one. Be RECKLESS! Throw caution to the wind!. Dare for that slightly hung-over feeling on Friday morning, and come and give us a friendly wave as we plough on with some new material, and generally have a good time. We're on pretty early (most likely around 8:15pm) which is just an added bonus!
And that warms us up nicely for...

FRIDAY 15th AUGUST - The HAMSWELL FESTIVAL, BATH.
Actually, the Festival runs from the 15th-17th, but everything kicks off around mid-day on Friday, and we'll be playing just as evening starts to fall - it should be beautiful. Into its 4th year, Hamswell is a fully independent festival, with 3 solid days of wildly eclectic acts, DJs until Dawn, On-Site Cinema, Cabaret, Art Installations, an open-mic stage, food, drink, fire eaters, people and VJs backing up the whole thing.

It's gonna be brilliant! Tickets are £35 for the whole weekend - and that's how long we'll all be down there for. If you're free and want some more outdoor summery fun - come!

There's much more to talk about, but we'll stick that in the blog. Hope you are all fabulous.
Mon 30th June @ 11:37pm

July - Sunshine, Music, Free things...

It's official - Summer is here! We hope that you're all getting the same lovely summer evenings that we've been getting recently - perhaps the song is working... (see the Media page if that makes no sense).

Three gigs this month, with the first being this FRIDAY (4th July) down at the amazing Bull and Gate, Kentish Town. It should be a really fun month, as we're adding more songs into the set-list, and generally warming up for a full-on full-length set at the Hamswell Festival in August (you should come - it'll be amazing).

Those dates in a little more detail:
Friday, 4th July - The Bull & Gate, Kentish Town
It's amazing! It's wonderful! We LOVE the Bull & Gate! It always seems like a little bit of a home-coming there, and we're really looking forward to this gig. It's a full night, with four bands - Fat Lips (Funk-Brass Indie), Riddler (um, us), Prince Edward Island (Arab Strab-esque Indie) & Laugh Now, Cry Later (Urban Folktronica) - it's going to be a traditional, varied B&G Night!

Monday 14th July - Feed the Monkey @ Jrink, Soho - FREE GIG
We've been asked to do a couple of Mid/Early-week show(cases) recently, and this is the next one! Jrink's really lovely (we've been to 3 or 4 gigs there) - lovely atmosphere, great, great music and amazing drinks just off Soho Square. The crowd down there are really friendly, and you can get seriously up close and personal with all the bands. It's basically brilliant! And FREE...

Monday 21st July - Rhythm Factory - Spoonful of Poison - FREE GIG
The legendary Vis the Spoon liked our truly strange acoustic set so much last time, he's invited us back (hell, we were giggling our way through it - Dan nearly spat into the Mic - it was amazing). What can you expect? Well, this is probably London's best Open Mic night - and it's certainly its strangest.

You should get around 10 acts (anything from Comedy to Performance Poetry to Acoustic acts) and around 10pm, you'll get us. And what will we play? Who knows, but it's sure as hell not going to be acoustic :). Well worth popping down to if you can...

There's much more going on in the background at the moment, and hopefully we'll say much more on that soon - make sure you keep an eye on our Blog for those little additions to our world - and we hope we can see you at a gig soon.
Thu 29th May @ 12:08pm

UPDATE! June - Gigantic Jellies, Sun & Music

**A Little Update - we've been asked to do a last-minute set on Tuesday the 24th June at The Good Ship, Kilburn High Road so some lovely people can come and listen to us - we should be on stage some time shortly after 8:30pm - and it would be marvelous to see anyone who'd like to pop along and support us!**

It's the start of the Summer, and Riddler are back from the sweaty depths of London to the leafy hills of Hertfordshire for the next gig...

Friday the 6th of June @ The Horn, St. Albans. It's about a fiver on the door, three bands (perhaps +1), two DJs, open until 2am, dark rooms, tons of booze, interesting characters and sweaty jumping around - only a couple of steps from St. Albans station too (what more could you ever possible ask for!).

It's a bit like a home-coming, but we're straight back into London for Odd Wednesdays on Wednesday the 11th June and The Legion, Old Street. This is an utterly fantastic (FREE) night with buckets of atmosphere, cool people and interesting musical vibes just dripping off the ceiling. The night kicks off around 8pm, Drinks are cheap until around 9.30pm (which is about that Riddler should amble onto the stage).

Well worth it.

PS - pop over to the Odd Wednesday's MySpace for a truly original wallpaper :P
Sat 17th May @ 11:16am

ULU Duck 'n' Dive on Sat May 24th!

We'll start with this! Riddler are playing 2 sets for Band Republic at the University of London Union (Duck 'n' Dive Bar) on Saturday the 24th of May. Full details are on the Live page, but it's basically Students, Cheap Beer, 5 Bands, 10 Sets, great night right in the centre of London!

It's £5 on the door or by Ticket (£3 Conc.), which also gets you membership of Band Republic. (Band Republic allows its members to be 'A&R Guys' for their acts, and chose pretty much everything about their future single releases, from the Band that gets released, right down to the Cover Photo that's used - awesome idea!).

If you'd like tickets, you can get in touch with us directly at ulu@riddlermusic.co.uk, and we'll get you all the details!

In other news - we've been sent a fair few photos from recent gigs, and they should end up on the site in a couple of days. We're also winding up for the 6th of June @ The Horn, St. Albans - a bit of a home-coming, as that's always an awesome night, and there may be a surprise Headline to go with it.

Wed 30th April @ 02:19pm

May Madness and More Music...

It's nearly May. ARGH! With the year tumbling past at horrendous speed, let's start by thanking all you lovely people who came to the Fused gig at the Inn on the Green on the 5th. Your support is amazing, and it was a blinder that everyone we've spoken to seems to have loved. Thank you!

Also, a little note. We've recently got back the photos from the Pete Doherty support gig a month or two back - they're up in the Live gallery if you fancy a butchers.

On to May - two gigs to speak of. The first is an opportunity to get over that Bank Holiday hangover with a slightly different sit-down-strange-acoustic affair down at the Rhythm Factory for A Spoonful of Poison. Blatantly London's best open mic night, Riddler are headlining it with an altered 'acoustic' set with just Lise, Mike and Dan (and some gizmos).

Monday 5th May - Rhythm Factory, 16-18 Whitechapel Road, E1 1EW
Doors 8pm (Sign-up if you fancy a go in front of an audience - 7:00pm)
Compere: The LEGEND that is Vis the Spoon

Also, we've been asked to do a few mid-week slots, and the first of these is also this month. It's at Westbourne Studios (just off the Portabello Road and a couple of minutes from the Inn on the Green), which is an amazing venue where you can chill on some sofas, relax at the bar, play pool, then come into the gig room to listen to a load of bands. Will be great!

Tuesday 13th May, Grand Hall @ The Cobden Club, Ladbroke Grove, W10 5BN
Near lots of tube stations!
Doors around 7:30pm - Stage around 10:15pm

That's about it for here - more stuff on our blog, new tunes going up on our media page, lots of rumour and scandal to follow.
Wed 2nd April @ 11:20am

Everything happens at once!

Righteo - lots been happening, lots to talk about :).

Just to start with, a little thank you to those who came down to the Doherty gig @ Rhythm Factory - we know it was a bit pricey, but it was a lot of fun, and the crowd were lovely!

While The Horn gig has been postponed, we're looking forward to the 5th of April, down at the Inn on the Green, Ladbroke Grove, where we're gigging for Eclectic Fusion (who kindly featured us on their site). It's a great venue (really cool gig room), and while we're doing fewer gigs to give us time to write, record and rehearse new songs, the gigs are getting more important each time - it would be brilliant to see you there.

5th April, Inn on the Green, 3-5 Thorpe Close, Ladbroke Grove, London
Doors: 8pm, Stage: Around 9:30pm or a bit later.
Compere: The LEGEND that is Vis the Spoon

Lise & Mike have also appeared in a video! It's a reworking of a song by some amazing friends of ours, RemembeR. It came about as a pan-European project between Artists, Designers and Musicians (and us!), and it's one of our favourite RemembeR songs.

It's also currently number 3 (was 15 in MTV Hungary's Top 50 videos chart, and number 8 (was 15) in their Rock Chart, which puts us only 12 places behind Radiohead - that's just freaky. Go and give it a watch and a rating over on YouTube!

We were also featured on Kooba Radio - one of the best podcasts out there (especially in the UK) for catching up with quality unsigned musicians (discluding ourselves, of course - modesty required). We were on (a seriously talent-filled) Johnny Yeah Show this week, where Johnny very kindly played an early demo version of one of the new songs, Lipstick Blonde. So if you'd like to hear a work-in-progress version of that (and from the lovely things they said, they liked it), pop over to Kooba Radio! If you don't, pop over and subscribe anyway - it's awesome.

Finally, work on the new website is coming along nicely (while we lose our Kidney's) - it's will appear magically at http://www.riddlermusic.co.uk (that would be here then!) in a few weeks. In the meantime, we've put up some demos of some songs we're working on on our MySpace and we've also started a Facebook Page - come and be our friend again!

There are loads of new photos up on Facebook (along with the video), and there'll be new music up there shortly.

See - lots happening :). Come, subscribe to our MySpace Blog, join us on Facebook, or just sign up to our mailing list, and we'll keep you in the loop on what looks likely to be a very busy 2008.
